Octavio A. Mella

Octavio A. Mella focuses his practice primarily on complex residential and commercial first-party insurance matters. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Florida International University’s Honors College where he served as Chief Justice of the FIU Student Government, was a Delegate for Model United Nations where he received awards at their Harvard and New York Conferences and was President of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity where he was awarded national recognition as Best President and for Best Chapter. Mr. Mella went on to get his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University School of Law where he was a member of the Trial Advocacy Team and represented the school in national competitions. During his time in law school, he was also a member of The American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and a Student-Attorney at the DC Law Students Court Clinic.

Prior to joining Stabinski Law, Mr. Mella worked at a boutique First-Party Insurance Plaintiff’s firm where he represented multiple large condominium associations throughout South Florida handling their insurance claims from pre-suit stages through litigation. His experience provided him with a unique perspective regarding the intricacies of larger insurance claims including engineering, glazing, and contractors’ reports.

Mr. Mella began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office where he investigated and prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to life felonies. Mr. Mella also clerked for the Homeland Security Investigations Law Division of the United States Department of Homeland Security and was formerly a part of the League of Prosecutors Association.

Mr. Mella has experience with over twenty trials, as well as experience at all stages of courtroom litigation. Mr. Mella is a member of the Florida Bar where he is licensed to practice law in Florida and is admitted to the United States District Court for both the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Mr. Mella is a native Spanish speaker.

During his free time, Mr. Mella likes to travel and spend time with his family.
